HSF Grant works underway at Hazelwood House

At Hazelwood House in Sligo, roof repair works are well underway. The Richard Castle designed house dates to 1731, and the timber roof structure is still largely intact.

The project is to replace unsuitable modern materials such as fibre cement slates and asphalt coverings, and to install new leadwork throughout. Inappropriate cement render applied to the chimney stacks has been removed, and the badly damaged bricks beneath have been repaired and made structurally sound, with new lime renders applied over. Bat vents designed within the slates will allow free movement of bats in and out.

This project is partly funded by an Historic Structures Fund grant through and the works will go some way to protecting the house into its next 300 years. The project team includes Crannog Roofing
