We have recently been appointed to design the new UNESCO Dublin Bay Discovery Centre for Dublin City Council on Bull Island. Our aim is to create an iconic discovery centre of approximately 3000sqm that will inspire both locals and visitors to understand and engage with the Dublin Bay Biosphere.

The design concepts of – balance, landmark, low-impact and local distinctiveness, respond directly to the delicate changing and predominantly horizontal landscape that sits between sky and sea. Located at the point where the island meets the causeway, the building represents both a ‘gateway’ and a ‘beacon of discovery’ about the island and the biosphere. Less an ‘object’ in the landscape but more a ‘lens’ through which it is ‘discovered.’
